All About the Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum
Broomfield is unique in many ways. One is that it was created, settled, and
given its fundimental, direction, and character by members of the World War
II generation. These were the young families that first bought homes in
Broomfield Heights in the mid 1950's...an era that was just becoming
comfortable with the concept of suburbia. The majority of the households
were headed by young veterans with young families. They set the pace and
provided the building blocks for growth with stability for this brand new
community. Many of these "City Fathers" and their families still reside here.
The committee with financial assistance from the Broomfield Rotary Club,
has video tapes of the recollections of over 40 of Broomfield's World War II
veterans. We have a growing collection of uniforms and memorabilia from all
services in all wars. We have eleven beautiful display cases built by the
woodworking shop at the Senior Center.
In our new permanent location at 12 Garden Center, which was the original
library and the first building owned by the city, we have a military honor
board complete with gold plaques and an honor book with photos and
biographies of all participating veterans of wartime or peacetime. These
plaques may be purchased to honor a loved one who served in the military.
This is possible thanks to a grant from the Broomfield Community
Foundation and proceeds from our successful "Patriotic Musical Salute."
Visitors...including school classes...will be able to view videos and our
displays which will be changed periodically and learn about our veterans in
our "honor book." Putting this museum together has been a four year labor
of love.
